How we score zero-turn mowers
Every mower gets a single 0–10 ZT Score — a weighted read of five things that actually matter when you're cutting grass week after week.
Evenness, striping, mulching and bagging across wet and dry grass and varied terrain.
Frame, deck gauge, spindles and transmission — what holds up over years, not weeks.
Seat, suspension, vibration and controls over a long session on uneven ground.
Price against the cut, build and features — measured within each mower's class.
Setup, deck adjustment, maintenance access and everyday handling.
Owner ratings are kept separate
The ZT Score is our editorial assessment. Owner star ratings are shown alongside it but never folded into the score — so a wave of five-star reviews can't inflate our number, and you can weigh both independently.
Every submitted review is moderated
Reviews are read before they're published. We remove spam, promotional content and anything that isn't a genuine ownership experience. Approved reviews update the owner rating automatically.
Reader-supported, editorially independent
Some links to retailers are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you buy through them — at no extra cost to you. That funding never affects a ZT Score or where a mower ranks. We recommend the best machine for the job, full stop.
